Core Aeration & Seeding
Greenlawns New York - Core Aeration & Seeding
Core aeration and seeding is the process of pulling cores of soil from existing turf and overseeding the area to promote the growth and development of new grass. Core aeration increases the penetration of air, water, and nutrients into the soil. Loosening the soil will help resolve thatch build up and encourage root growth. Seeding after core aeration will help to fill areas of the lawn which have been affected by disease. insects or heat and water stress. Seeding the lawn will help to fill in thinning areas and improve the lawns appearance and health.
Aerating and seeding usually takes a couple of hours depending on the size of the lawn. The ideal time to aerate and seed is in the fall due to the cool temperatures, the moist air, and germination. Depending on the temperature, you can see results within 10 to 14 days. The ending result is a beautiful, lush, full and green lawn.
Slice seeding begins with equipment called a slice seeder. This machine slices (cuts) into the soil with steel blades creating long narrow trenches made in the ground otherwise know as furrows. It delivers the grass seed into the furrows.
Slice seeding puts the seed firmly into the channel made by the machine directly in contact with the soil, this method is more effective than spreading the grass seed by hand manually.
